Carolyn Trader, CPP -2011 Texas Payroll Professional of the Year

Being named TPPY is a tremendous honor, and there is unquestionably a history of outstanding leaders who have received this award in the past.  I personally think that’s what being named TPPY is all about.  It’s about being a true leader.  How do you define a leader?  Leaders are those who empower others.  A leader realizes that respect is not only something received but it is something that is given to others as well.  Leaders often have an ability, whether realized or not, to see potential within an individual and to help push that individual to succeed.  John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”  I believe that education and mentoring embody President Adams’s words perfectly, and those ideas are at the core of what TPC stands for and are a focus of each TPPY recipient, past and present.

Now, let’s talk about this year’s recipient.  The 2011 Texas Payroll Professional of the Year is an individual who has worked in payroll for over 20 years and has been a CPP for more than 10.  This professional has been serving on a local level since the 90’s when that spirit of education and mentorship inspired this individual to get involved with their local chapter.  Over the years, this payroll professional has motivated and guided others to successfully obtain their CPP certification – not only through their Chapter’s Education Program but also at work.  Like many of the TPPYs before, this professional knows how the mentors of their past have helped them, and they desire to serve in that capacity for others.

Locally, our recipient has been named Payroll Professional of the Year by their chapter.  They have also served in various board positions for many years and have been critical to the success and growth of their chapter.  Their passion for and commitment to the payroll profession has also driven them to serve on the state and national level.  This individual holds quite a history here at TPC and is very well known and respected by their colleagues.  At the National level, our recipient has taught at APA’s Chapter Leadership series and has served on the Hotline Referral Committee for many years.

Professionally, those who know the recipient describe them as a team player, a great leader, and someone who goes above and beyond.  Personally, this year’s TPPY is known as a big-hearted, outgoing individual who is always willing to lend a helping hand.  This year’s recipient is also a great representative outside of the payroll profession, volunteering countless hours to the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure, regional blood drives, and several other community service initiatives.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a privilege and an honor to present to you the 2011 Texas Payroll Professional of the Year.  Former TPC President…
